How To Care for Your Eyes

There are many general health conditions that can be found, simply by having an eye test. It can detect signs of diabetes, blood pressure, raised cholesterol, thyroid problems to name but a few. An eye test is recommended every 2 years (or sooner if deemed necessary by your optometrist).
A healthy diet is essential for eye health as this can help reduce the risk of certain eye diseases. A diet that is rich in dark, leafy vegetables i.e. kale, spinach will provide lutein which is essential for central vision health. Try to include a diet of omega 3 fats and vitamins A, C and E as these are also beneficial to the eye health.
Avoid smoking as this carries an increased risk of certain eye problems for example Age-related Macular Degeneration. This condition causes the patient to lose their central vision and is the leading cause of irreversible vision loss in adults over 60. It is never too late to quit smoking, the sooner you quit, the greater the benefits.

If you are suffering with dry eye symptoms, speak to your optometrist. If you wear makeup, ensure you are cleaning the eye lids correctly. Ensure you are replacing your eye make up regularly to improve your eye hygiene.
