Size Guide: Choosing the Right Glasses & Sunglasses for Your Face Shape

Selecting the perfect pair of glasses or sunglasses for you isn't just about picking a style you like; it's also about finding frames that complement your unique facial features. With so many options available, it can be overwhelming to determine which styles are best suited for your face shape. But that’s where we come in…

Here at Yoovy, we can help you find the perfect glasses that suit your face shape and lifestyle needs and match your style goals. In this guide, we'll delve into the most important questions such as ‘what glasses suit my face’, ‘how to measure sunglasses sizes’, and how to know if you’ve found your dream eyewear.

Whether you're searching for designer spectacles or luxury sunglasses, Yoovy is here to assist you in making the perfect choice that will have all eyes on yoo.

What glasses suit my face?

Before you can choose the right glasses and sunglasses for your face shape it's important to understand the different face shapes and what shape yours is.

Here's a brief overview of the most common face shapes:

  • Round: Soft curves with equal width and length.
  • Oval: Balanced proportions with slightly wider cheekbones and a narrower forehead.
  • Square: Angular features with a strong jawline and a forehead of a similar width.
  • Heart: Wider forehead and cheekbones going down to a narrower chin.
  • Diamond: Narrow forehead and jawline with wider cheekbones.

Now you can take a look at your own face in the mirror and see which face shapes you think you have.

Matching Frames to Face Shapes

Now that you have an understanding of different face shapes, let's explore which frame styles complement each shape best so you can answer the all-important question of ‘What shape sunglasses are best for my face?’.

Round Face

If you have a round face then we recommend that you opt for angular frames that will add definition and contrast to your soft features. For example, rectangle frame sunglasses or square glasses help to elongate the face, such as our Bentham Spectacles available in a range of colours.

We recommend that you avoid round frames as this can exaggerate the roundness of your face and make it look more severe than it is.

Oval Face

Great news if you have an oval face as this means that you can pretty much pull off any frame style you’d like. We recommend that you get busy experimenting with the various shapes, sizes, and colourways available at Yoovy. Just be sure to avoid frames that overpower your natural features.

Square Face

For those with a square face, we recommend that you opt for a more rounded or oval frame to soften angular features. For example, cat-eye sunglasses or oval face-shaped glasses are great at adding curves to your face. On the other hand, we recommend that you steer clear of overly geometric frames that emphasise your square structure.

Heart-Shape Face

As a heart face shape has a wider forehead, we recommend bottom-heavy frames to balance out your facial appearance. This makes cat-eye sunglasses a popular style. Another way to minimise attention to your forehead is by opting for rimless or light-coloured frames. We recommend that you stay away from oversized frames that could overwhelm delicate features.

Diamond-Shape Face

With a diamond face, we would always say to lean into your natural features and emphasise your cheekbones with semi-rimless or oval frames. You should avoid narrow frames that may accentuate your cheek width but don’t be afraid to experiment with bold colours and patterns to add visual interest.

Considering Frame Sizes

Now that you know what your face shape is and what kind of frames will best suit your face, it’s crucial to consider size:

Frame Width

It's crucial that the width of the frame matches the width of your face. Not only is this important for comfortability but also frames that are too narrow or wide can throw off your facial proportions.

Bridge Fit

To give you a guide, the bridge of the frame should sit comfortably on your nose without it pinching the skin. At Yoovy, all of our frames feature a keyhole comfort bridge to ensure a snug fit yet maximum comfort. The design has short pads that sit on each side of the nose, which is considered to be the best areas for comfort.

Temple Length

The temple arms on your glasses or sunglasses should extend straight back and curve comfortably around your ears. You should avoid frames that have temple arms that are too short or long as this can cause discomfort.

Lens Size

When picking the right lenses for your face we recommend that you go for a lens size that is proportionate to your face. This is because large lenses can overwhelm smaller faces, while small lenses can get lost on larger faces.

How to Measure Sunglasses Size

If you want to ensure a proper fit then you need to know how to measure your sunglasses size.

Here are some of our top tips:

  • Lens Width - Start by measuring the width of one lens from edge to edge in millimetres. You can then choose a lens width that provides enough coverage without extending beyond the width of your face.
  • Bridge Width - For the bridge, you should measure the distance between the two lenses at the bridge in millimetres to allow for a comfortable fit on the bridge of your nose. This is essential to ensure your sunglasses don’t rub on the bridge of your nose when wearing them.
  • Temple Length - Measure the length of the temple arm from the hinge to the tip in millimetres. You should ensure that the temple arms are long enough to reach behind your ears without applying pressure.

Trends and Personal Style

Whilst it’s important that you consider your face shape, frame size, and how to measure your sunglasses correctly, when choosing eyewear you shouldn’t ignore your personal preferences. Just because a pair of glasses fits your face perfectly doesn’t mean that you’ll like them. This is where your own style comes in.

Here at Yoovy, we have trending eyewear available for everyone. You can stay updated on current trends both in our journal and also by checking out our stunning collection. Then you can explore how trends intersect with different face shapes to find the perfect balance of style and functionality.

But ultimately your eyewear should reflect your personality and style. Embrace your style when picking the right glasses and sunglasses for you and don’t be scared to experiment with different colours, patterns, and materials to express yourself!

Choosing the right glasses or sunglasses for your face shape doesn't have to be a daunting task. By understanding your face shape, selecting appropriate frame styles and sizes, and embracing personal style preferences, you can find eyewear that not only enhances your appearance but also boosts your confidence.

With Yoovy's diverse range of styles and expert guidance, you'll be sure to find the perfect pair for every occasion.
